The giving of thanks does not always occur naturally to us, often we need to be reminded that it is something we, as Christians, should do at all times, and in all places. At times we may murmur; complain; be fretful or anxious, but remember that there are reasons why we should be thankful. God has 'delivered us from the powers of darkness, into the kingdom of His dear Son' – Where might we have been, what might we have become without Christ?
Before becoming Christians we were hell-bound sinners, but through His Son God qualified us for heaven. Christ purchased us, redeemed us – the righteous requirements of the law were satisfied when His blood was shed to pay the price for our sins.
Once we become a Christian we cannot be disqualified, we will persevere till the end. Once in Christ there is none that can condemn us. By His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection He has under-written the process of our salvation.
Satan, may try to get us to doubt, and to question whether we are born again, he may try to cause us to be fearful and anxious, he may seek to discourage, or to tempt us, but don't despair. Instead be thankful, for Christ is interceding for us! We are to be thankful because we have a future – for as Christians we have an inheritance! This is not just for certain eminent saints, but it is for all who believe. When we become Christians we move from darkness into light, the light of God's love in His Son Jesus Christ.
Paul prayed these things for the church at Colosse, nothing has changed – like the Colossian believers we have many reasons to be thankful. May this cause us to give thanks, whatever our circumstances may be.
