The manner of speech and the content of their words expose the ungodly and their true nature. The manner of speech and content of the words likewise should reveal the contrast and godliness of believers. Grumbling, complaining, discontentment are sins of the tongue often tolerated and yet have the potential for great destruction and harm to anyone exposed including believers. Even more serious is the expression of unbelief, dissatisfaction, and rebellion against God whom ultimately the grumbling is against. Failure to speak the truth and speak truthfully will also characterize the unbeliever as lying has been a sin from the beginning of rebellion by man clear back to the garden. Telling reminders of the responsibility believers have concerning their speech, both in what is said and what is not said.
