Showing mercy does not mean tolerating false teaching and the practices nor does it mean compromising the truth of God's word and righteousness. Mercy does not give up but also does not get careless, complacent but is cautious with necessary concern. Three groups that those in the church must deal with in showing mercy are 1) the doubters, 2) those teetering on the edge of falling away, and 3) those entangled in the ungodly practices of the ungodly who have crept in with a godliness that is a facade. Believers have a responsibility to 'save' other believers who have been impacted and influenced by the apostates who have crept in.
