Without being a partaker of the divine nature and having been set free from the power of sin it is meaningless to try and live out what looks the way a Christian should live. Behavior modification is not God's ultimate purpose for His people and His word having been given. In the book of Romans, the first eleven chapters explain the means for living our the Christian life that necessarily results from believing in what God has said and who He has sent to provide deliverance from the power of sin, paying the penalty for sin, and one day from the very presence of sin. Faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ has been explained and for those who believe in Christ alone as Savior and Lord, they are then to live the new life in dedication to God as a living sacrifice of praise and worship, of service and separation from the past.
