When Jesus said you are the salt of the earth and the light of the world, He was saying this to those who were following Him; His disciples. Not everyone has been born again into the family of God. We must realize this so that we can help those who are lost by telling them the gospel. We need to address the problems of humanity. Jesus tells His disciples who they are, not who they will become. He tells His followers, that we are the salt and we are the light. Jesus says to His disciples who hid their lights while around certain people, that they are worthless. In order for us to make a difference in this world, we must stay true to our character in Christ. As Christians, our goal should not be to just fit in. Salt adds flavor, it preserves, and makes people thirsty. If we trust God, He will let our lights shine. If we know Jesus, we are the lights of the world wherever God has us. When we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world, we are going to change the environment. We are not to be phony in our conduct about Jesus, but we are not to hide our love for Him either. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are the salt of the earth, you are the light of the world.
