"She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple." Proverbs 31:22
The virtuous woman here shows herself to be resourceful, as well as appreciative of the resources she has received from the hand of God inn her labors. It may be surprising to some readers today to read that the virtuous woman clothes herself in fine silk. The virtuous woman here is not immodest, and yet she is not reluctant to cloth herself in accordance to the blessings of God’s provision. As we consider this woman I light of the entire chapter, we see that she is not consumed with extravagance, self-promotion, or vanity. She is frugal in the sense that she is not wasteful, but her frugality has not become an obsession, nor does she look to it as a source of righteousness. As we consider this passage today, consider the fact that the virtuous woman allows herself to enjoy the material blessings that God has provided.
