The virtuous woman’s husband is a man who is known, respected, and included among the civil leaders of the land. The old adage “Behind every good man, stands a good woman”, comes to mind as I read this verse. This husband has the freedom of mind and time to sit among the elder and care for civil matters, because he trusts that his wife is being faithful to fulfill her duties at home. He does not have a divided mind, in the sense that he is always wondering where she is, and what she’s doing, he trusts in her faithfulness. And then, as she cares for him, encourages him, and supports his labors, he is able to labor without the burden of a deflated spirit. The virtuous woman is not her husband’s door mat, but she is a vital source of his encouragement and support.
