This description really gets to the heart of the virtuous woman. Her heart is a heart of love. A person can be diligent and lack love if their diligence only extends to their own benefit. So, a woman can see well to her own family and yet lack virtue. The virtuous woman is motivated by love. Thusly, when she sees need, whether it is in her own family or elsewhere, she is moved to action by compassion. While Proverbs 31 focuses on the virtuous woman, love and compassion are core traits that motivate any Christian to action. Where you can find true, selfless love and compassion, you can find Christ living within. Where you can find the “righteous” who ignores the plight of the needy, you will also find a person who is void of Christ within.
