"The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;" Proverbs 30:27
The wisdom of the locusts is found in their disciplined instinct to work in unity. A solitary locust is no threat at all. However, we just need a cursory reading of Joel chapter two, to see the devastation these creatures can cause as they swarm in disciplined unity upon an effort. Their strength is great, and their force is unstoppable. The strength of unity is one that is meant to be experienced in the Christian life. God designed believers to worship him in the context of an assembly: a group of unified believers who are pressing toward the goal of Christ-likeness. Any Christian who is honest will admit our natural weakness in isolation. Some tend toward despair and worry when left to their own thoughts, and others to arrogance and pride. The point is, one of the primary sources of strength and wisdom Christ has given the believer, is a unified body of believers, in which he finds comfort and encouragement.
