"For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear: For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat; for an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress." Proverbs 30:21-23
In this list of scenarios that are said to make the earth tremble with terror, Agur gives four examples of power and prosperity in the hands of a fool. Power and prosperity are not simply luxuries to be enjoyed, but responsibilities to be stewarded. Without wisdom, even the greatest blessings can be used in such a way that they end up bringing tremendous heart ache and grief. Dear reader, take a moment to reflect upon your goals and ambitions in life. Are you aware of the fact that if you were to attain the fullness of your desires and yet lack wisdom, your response to the power or prosperity you hope to gain would bring nothing but trouble to you and those around you? We must pray for, and pursue humility and wisdom that comes through a daily walk with Jesus Christ.
