"There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness." Proverbs 30:12

As we look at the distorted and broken moral compass of our present world, we might be tempted to think that we are living in unique times. However, as we see in this passage, the people living during the time of Agur, were not so different. Why is it, that evil men and women are so bold? How is it, that entire organizations rally behind agendas that are obviously sinful and wicked? Our passage gives us the answer to both questions. The evil men and women as well as the organizations that promote wickedness think they are right, pure, and justified in their actions. Isn’t this an incredibly ridiculous thought? May we remember that before Christ removed the blinders from our heart and mind, we were pure in our own eyes as well. With this understanding, when we think about social reform, may we have the wisdom to realize that social reform begins on our knees in prayer that the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ would pierce through the darkness of filthy, blinded souls.
