Why has the gospel been perverted and reduced in so many evangelical churches today? Or maybe I should ask why antinomianism has almost swallowed the entire professed church? As I speak to professing Christians I hear the same re-occurring errors over and over again and the problem is that their starting point is not God. Let me try to explain what I mean; I think we all realize that so many are deceived because they do not have a Biblical view of sin and therefore they do not have a Biblical view of salvation. My first answer to that problem ,a couple of years ago, would have been that there is no preaching of the law and I still think that is true, but we have to back it up a step and say that there is no preaching of the law ,for the conviction of sin, because there is no understanding of God. In Romans 1:16-25 The Apostle mentions "God" 12 times in 10 verses and this is the starting point of his whole thesis on the gospel in the first 5 chapters of the book. If you read that passage you will see that man's digression into sin is in direct proportion to his distortion of God. Every man innately knows that there is a God and that He is creator and judge. but what do men do with that knowledge? They suppress it in verse 18, they refuse to glorify God in verse 21, they change it or twist it in verse 23, and then they replace God's truth with a lie in verse 25. We must realize that man's primary problem is that we idolaters by nature. We take the revealed knowledge of God and twist it to fit our own lifestyle and our own capacity to think and if men continue in this manipulation of God and don't repent, they will end up in hell.
