"An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression." Proverbs 29:22
Here we have yet another portrait of a man who is lacking self-control. This is a sad picture, isn’t it? It’s not just that the individual experiences a few conflicts and commits a transgression every now and then. The picture here is of an individual who is the constant source of conflict, and his natural response to life’s circumstances is habitually sinful. We must also be reminded to make wise decisions about the companions we choose. Proverbs 22:24-25 warns us not to make friends with an angry man, lest we learn his ways and get a snare to our soul. When we think through this sad reality, we have to stop and thank God for the grace of self-control. As we look to Christ in faith, and strive to live in light of His promises, rather than our lives being characterized by the miserable state above, we have access to the abundant life.
