WHO NOT WHEN
I know of people who celebrate a “birthday” on the anniversary of the day they “got saved”. That is not a good idea since that will lead to looking to a day or an experience rather than looking to Christ. I am thankful that I don’t know what day in time the Lord saved me. The day and hour is not important. All that matters is that I know Christ. Paul did not say I know when I believed. Paul said, “I know whom I have believed” (II Tim 1:12). The day I first looked to Christ is not important. The only thing that matters is that I am looking to Christ right now. “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Heb. 12:2).
My friend when you were saved or how long you have been saved is not important. The important issue is do you believe Christ and look to Christ right now?
“CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY” (Colossians 1: 27)
The one and only hope of glory for any sinner is “Christ in you.” It isn’t facts and feelings in you, or doctrine and religion in you, or even faith in you. True, Christ does not abide in the sinner who is without true, saving faith, but many have faith who do not have Christ (Matthew 7: 13-23; James 2: 14-16).
The sinner in whom Christ dwells is a saint, a child of the living God, and shall inherit eternal glory. He has been born of God. He has a new life and a new divine nature (II Peter 1:4; II Corinthians 5: 17). He has the mind of Christ, the heart of Christ, and the disposition and attitude of Christ. The new, divine nature may often be faint and feeble in its outward manifestations, but upon reflection, it will be found to be alive and sensitive to the sinfulness and inability of the old, fleshly nature, and to have an abiding ever-increasing need of the Lord Jesus Christ and His free grace.
Pastor Maurice Montgomery
I need constantly to remind myself that “all things are of God.” Let me not preach sovereignty and then complain of my lot in life. Let me not talk of Divine purpose and then spend my days murmuring about my trials and troubles. It is totally inconsistent with faith in the sovereign Christ for me to question His good providence. Paul called covetousness idolatry and said, “I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content” (Phil. 4:11). I pray for submission, for with it comes peace and rest.

“I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea” (Romans 16:1).
Two things are said of this woman Paul commends. She is our sister and a servant of the church. The ties of grace make us members of the same family. And grace is thicker than blood. She is our sister. She is a servant of the church. We cannot be servants of Christ unless we are servants of His church. The only way we are truly a servant to Him is by being a servant to His church. May this be an accurate description of us - “Brothers and sisters in Christ and servants of His church.”
