If there ever was a relevant nugget of wisdom for Christians in our age, surely this is it. How often have you heard an individual assure you that they were praying for God’s will to be done in a particular situation, only to discover that they were not interested in looking to His Word for answers? Christianity has been so heavily influenced by mysticism that many Christians believe prayer to be the sole means of growing in grace. These prayers tend to be shallow and self-centered, because they are not informed by the truths of scripture; they are dictated by what the individual desires in the moment. True prayer, has a direct connection to the Word of God, because it is only in the Word, that we are taught how to truly pray. Those who ignore the word, but pretend to seek the Lord in prayer, are actually seeking themselves and their own agenda. This type of prayer is an abomination to the Lord, because rather than seeking to bring honor and glory to God, they are seeking for God to bring honor and glory to them.
