"He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor." Proverbs 28:8

The uplifting truth communicated in our verse is that God in His justice will make all things right, according to His sovereign will. The man under consideration in this verse is oppressing the poor by charging outrageous interest, in order to take advantage of the one who borrowed from him. The picture is that this man makes such a practice of this, that he becomes wealthy. This unjust gain is so intoxicating, that the man eventually schedules his life around taking advantage of others to further his own prosperity. What he doesn’t realize, is that the money that he is hoarding up for his own gain, will actually be used to further God’s glory, not his own. It’s easy to get discouraged as we see the injustice that take place in business and political realms. However, we have reason to be encouraged; He who turns the hearts of the king, also rules over the hearts of the wicked. His glory will not be diminished, and His ability to care for His people cannot be hindered.
