One Lordship Salvationists said, “Eternal security is a great spiritual truth, but it should never be presented merely as a matter of being once saved, always saved--with no regard for what you believe or do. The writer of Hebrews 12:14 states frankly that only those who continue living holy lives will enter the Lord's presence." How can a saved believer ever have assurance believing a statement like this? Look at what the apostle Paul thought. 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 2 Timothy 1:12 for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. Thank The Lord He is keeping me and I am not keeping Him. If I were keeping myself, or thought I were keeping myself saved, I would be like the Lordship salvationist, always wondering if I were behaving myself good enough to make it. They don't have assurance, they have a floating opportunity. They are no different than those who believe that the Chruch Age saint can lose their salvation.
The danger in this belief system, is that it takes the confidence away from the promises of the Lord. We are not enduring, Jesus Christ is enduring for us. 1 Corinthians 1:7-8 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are hid in Him (Col 3:3).
The trouble today is that so many people will follow a so called great teacher and do not check out his teachings by comparing Scripture with Scripture in the context it is given. You can make the Bible say anything you want to if you take it out of it's context. You do know that "there is no God" (Ps 14:1), you do know that " baptism doth also now save us," (1 Pt 3:21) right? I just gave Scripture to teach two heresies but they were quoted out of context.
The Lordship salvationists is able to quote Scripture because most of their proof texts are quoted without being rightly divided. If more preachers and teachers would obey the command to rightly divide the word of truth, they would not lead so many of their followers into the ditch (Matt 15:14). One reason teachers are not obeying this command is because the command is taken out of the modern perversions. The Holman so called Christian standard bible reads in 2 Timothy 2:15
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth. The others will read somewhere close to this one. The command to rightly divide is taken out. This world system run by the devil (2 Cor 4:4) doesn't like division. They want everyone to get together under a one world church (Rev 17) and division keeps this from taking place. We should never compromise on the truth in the name of unity. The leaders of Christ's day were together on the decision to crucify an innocent man. There are divisions in the Bible that must not be overlooked or there would be contradictions all throughout the Scripture.
The book of Hebrews records a transition period from the Church Age doctrine back to tribulation doctrine. This is where the Lordship salvationists and many others lose their mind (2 Tim 2:26). Once the Church is caught out (1 Thess 4:14-18) the sealing of the Holy Spirit is gone and the loss of salvation is possible like it was in the O.T. ( 1 Sam 16:14). Hebrews applied to Jews who believed Christ was the Messiah before the Church Age doctrines were fully known and established in Acts 15. However, now, Hebrews speaks directly to Hebrews who will be alive during the Tribulation after the Church is gone. Remember, all of the Bible is for you profitably but not all to you doctrinally. With the book of Hebrews, the Bible begins to take on a Jewish twist again. With the thirteen books preceding it dealing with the Body of Christ, the Holy Spirit now begins to again address the Jews. As the title of the book is Hebrews, why would anyone think it applied doctrinally to Gentile Christians in light of (Gal 3:28, Col 3:11). There are no distinctions in the body of Christ. Of course, there is much in the book of Hebrews a Christian can learn and profit from, but if he tries to apply it all doctrinally to the Church Age he will soon run into "contradictions." The writer of Hebrews is trying to convince both lost and saved Hebrews that the new covenant established by Christ's death is superior to the old covenant of the Law. The temptation of saved Hebrews backsliding back into the bondage of the Law is very great, and Paul wants to strengthen the hearers of this book in what Christ's redemption has done for them.
The Lordship Salvationists confuses transitional books like Matthew, Acts, and Hebrews with Church Age doctrine books which are Romans through Philemon. Doing this will cause contradictions if you take the Bible at face value. Many today will try to run to the greek and make the Bible say something it doesn't say so they can try to understand the text without noticing divisions in the Bible. What this does is cause confusion (1 Cor 14:33). We are to take the Bible literally unless it cannot be taken literally and read it in the context it is given to the group it is addressed to. This method (1 Cor 2:13) will eliminate most if not all of the doctrinal errors taught by people who believe a Church Age Christian can lose their salvation or that they need to endure to the end. Enduring to the end is tribulation doctrine.
The Church Age Christian is to rest in their salvation and serve the Saviour out of love. Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.
