One of the main statements you will hear a Lordship salvationist say is, "If Jesus is not Lord of all, He's not Lord at all." You have to be careful of adopting these statements that sound good but are not doctrinally correct. Was Jesus being Lord of all in Simon Peter's life when He told him "how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day," "Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord." Simon Peter's actions wouldn't line up with the above Lordship salvationists statement. If you will examine your own life you will find that many times (probably daily) you aren't making Him Lord of all your actions either.
Before the crucifixion Jesus had to rebuke Simon Peter for cutting the ear off of Malchus after warning him and trying to explain to him He would have to suffer. In Acts chapter ten the Lord tells Peter, "Rise, Peter; kill, andeat." Peter's reply kills the heresy of Lordship salvation. He says, "Not so, Lord." If Jesus was Lord of that statement my name is Donald Duck.
There is a type in the Old Testament of salvation that explains well how our thoughts toward obedience should be. In Exodus 12 the blood was applied. They didn't get the commandments until chapter 20! That's how it is. The blood (Col 1:14) must be applied by trusting Jesus Christ, believing the gospel (1 Cor 15:1-4), then you can start obeying. You can repent like Pharoh (Ex 9:27), Balaam (Num 22:34), Judas (Matt 27:4), and go to hell like a greased watermellon if you don't have the blood applied (Ex 12:13).
They say, "Make Jesus Lord." You don't make Him Lord, He is Lord! A christian is to yield his members to Him (Rom 6:13) but if he doesn't, he can become a carnal Christian. There is a such thing as a carnal Christian ( 1 Cor 3:3-4).
There is a misunderstanding today of the doctrine of repentance. I believe much of the blame can be attributed to the apostasy in the Christian colleges and seminaries.Their goal is to get the students to believe the "scholars" (Mal 2:12) over the written word of God. They set up two authorities so they can be the pope who can tell you which one is correct. This is the old tactic of divide and conquer. The devil is the king of this, read Genesis 3.
We are to get our definitions from the Bible comparing Scripture with Scripture (1 Cor 2:13) not lexiCON with commentary, etc. The Bible definition of repentance is to turn, not just turn from sins. How else could God repent (Gen 6:7)? He has no sins to turn from. Someone is to repent or turn from their sins because Christ died foroursins, but they are also to turn from their unbelief and trust His shed blood to get them to heaven. The sin of unbelief is what damn's a soul to hell (Jn 16:9). The heresy of Lordship Salvation is built around the false repentance of Judas, which attempts to reform and rehabilitate the sinner, but there is no regeneration which only the new birth can produce.
