“Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the Lord understand all things.” Proverbs 28:5
The chief emphasis of the whole book of Proverbs is wisdom. In the very first verses of the first chapter, Solomon trumpets the advantage of perception, discretion, understanding, and learning. The goal of instruction, experience, and hardship is to teach so that the student will learn and understand. As we near the end of Proverbs, this verse reminds us of this important truth – that even if Solomon had continued to write for 131 chapters instead of 31, it would be of no benefit to some. They would never learn. The ability to learn spiritual wisdom has nothing to do with intelligence. It has everything to do with the heart. One group in this verse is described as evil while the other group is described as seekers of God. The difference is in the heart. And only God can make the heart good. Only he can prepare the soil to receive the word so that lessons are learned and judgments are noted
