The life style we choose is never without consequences. The consequences that are under contrast in our verse today, is paranoia and boldness. There are many fruits of perpetual unresolved guilt; paranoia being a particularly difficult one to manage. In this context, paranoia occurs as someone who knows they are guilty of sinning against another, suffers the anticipation of revenge. This hinders where this individual goes, who they talk to, and their ability to trust anyone. They know themselves, that they are untrustworthy, and suspect that others must be the same. So, when it becomes obvious that their circumstances are more than they can manage, they assume the worst, and flee. Who of us reading this morning, have not experienced the miserable paranoia that accompanies unresolved sin? Rather than running from our perceived enemies, may we run to Christ through repentance and faith, that we might find rest for our souls.
