As odd as these verses may seem for a devotional, they really do point us to practical wisdom. The original exhortation in verse 23 was to be diligent in tending to the flocks. In the verses before us, we see the value of knowing how to care for that which we have been given stewardship over. From feeding, to sheering, to milking, there is a time and benefit to knowing when and where this phase of care takes place. Solomon addresses some of the specific, practical ways to care for, and receive benefit from the flocks. We would do well to note that it is only as we become diligent in specific tasks, that progress is made. Do you take the time to prioritize your plans? If so, do you have the self-control to follow through on the specifics of your plans? Diligence pays off as we focus our energy on clear, specific tasks. May we have the wisdom and self-control to do so.
