“A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.” Proverbs 27:12

A fine line exists between prudence and panic, between foresight and paranoia. A simple google search will reveal bundles of doomsday predictions, whether arising from the world of finance, our own government, or foreign invasion. As these dates of predicted doom come and go, the panicked evidence the need to trust in the good Shepherd, who will never leave nor forsake. On the other hand, the unsuspecting and carefree individual is often trapped by the unexpected snare. Prudence dictates awareness, of our surroundings and of trends in our culture. Awareness means that we not only are cognizant of evil but we make preparations to avoid the perils associated with evil. But prudence also dictates that trust in God always informs our preparation and our state of mind. The Christian’s faith is based in the goodness of God and the truth that safety is of the Lord. Our faith is not based in God always enabling us to skirt past trials and snares, but that He is with us in the snares that we need and He will guide us past the snares we don’t need.
