"Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful." Proverbs 27:6
It is so easy to choose our counselors or advisers based on who we think will tell us what we want to hear. Yet, godly wisdom does not ignore rebuke, or avoid truth, but recognizes that those who are willing to hurt our feelings by ministering the truth to us, are faithful friends. We must understand that the wounds of a friend do not come through harsh words, or hateful attitudes, but from truth that is spoken in love. Truth is difficult to hear some times isn’t it? We would do well to remember that as we seek to minister to others in a God-honoring way. However, if we would be faithful, we must speak truth. We do harm to those we love as we speak dishonest flattery in order to spare their feelings. May God bless us to be faithful and thankful for those who are faithful to us.
