"The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet." Proverbs 27:7
It is very important to remember that this statement is made right after Solomon’s statements about the blessing of rebuke. Today’s verse is kind of like a check point for our souls. The soul that is full, doesn’t even want that which is sweet and enjoyable. However, the hungry soul eats and enjoys even the food that is bitter. Well, the last several verses have provided some pretty bitter food. I don’t know anyone who sits around hoping and praying for a personal rebuke. However, for those who see how spiritually bankrupt they really are, even the bitter thought of being rebuked is sweet, if God is using that rebuke to make them more like Jesus. How do you respond to the bitter portions of scripture? The answer to that question will give you an accurate reflection of where you are spiritually.
