We welcome pastor Larry Criss who will bring the message this morning. Larry is the pastor of Fairmont Grace Church in Sylacauga, Alabama. Bible School for ages 4 through high school will be held here this week from Wednesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Everyone is invited to attend a picnic Friday at 4:30 p.m. at the CSX park in Huntington. Directions are in the vestibule.
People think the world would be a better place if we could just put men in a better environment. They think there would be less crime if the government would provide for all of their needs. They think there would be fewer people on drugs if everyone were in a situation where they felt loved and appreciated. They think we would have peaceful home lives if everyone weren’t under so much pressure.
They couldn’t be more wrong. Man’s problem is not his environment. Man’s problem is his nature. Adam was in a perfect environment where everything was provided for him and he had the friendship of God. Yet Adam still sinned. The problem with our environment is that Adam’s sin has put nature under the curse of sin. Man does not need a better environment. Men need Christ to be our Savior! Men need God to move in grace and give us a new heart and a new nature in the new birth!
SHOULD I MAKE MY CHILDREN GO TO CHURCH?
In response to that let me ask, “Should you make your children go to school?” Of course you should! Because it is important to their future happiness for them to get an education. We do not let them miss school without a good reason. We don’t allow them to stay home for fear that forcing them to go to school will make them hate knowledge when they are grown. We do not allow such things as sporting activities, sleep-overs, jobs, or laziness to cause them to miss school regularly. Why? We count their attendance important for the good it will do them.
How important to you is it that they learn the way of eternal life? Is it as important as them learning the ABC’s? Is their eternal happiness as important to you as the “this-life” happiness? I know it is. Then act like it is and lovingly bring your children to church regularly so that they may hear of Christ.

Wonder what God might do if we spent more time teaching our children the scriptures? I am sure Christ is the subject God speaks of when he says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Pro 22: 6) It is certain, if God saves our child, Christ will be the only Way he will never depart from! Then what better subject could we teach them?

Mercy Needed, Mercy Sought, Mercy Obtained
Without question, like the rich man who died and in hell lifted up his eyes, all men will one day see their need of mercy. But, as with him, it will be too late. Will you realize your need of God’s mercy too late? I pray God will show you your need now, and that today is the day of salvation, now is the accepted time. Then you will do as this blind beggar did, cry to the Lord Jesus for mercy. And you will find what he found, that God is rich in mercy, and delights to bestow it on all that call upon him.
