The first and most cruel deception was the contention that more is better than enough. In fact, with this theme, enough is never enough because there is always more. This one lie has produced more grief, more brokenness, than any other lie. Thirst can never be quenched as long as there is the quest for more. The best economic systems are handicapped by greed for more. The best, God-designed institutions like marriage are made vulnerable by dissatisfaction with enough. God-given drive is often mutated by selfish ambition. Medical costs and physical suffering are often the result of enough not being enough. In the kindness of God, He gives the gift of faith to His children, revealing in them His son Jesus as the One who really is enough. It is in placing our eye upon Him that we come to realize that we don’t really need more. He really is enough. Everything else is a secondary blessing to be enjoyed in measure. It is also through embracing the concept of enough that we find the strength to break the clutches of life-binding habits formed from the deception that enough is not enough.
