For the next several verses, Solomon is going to illustrate the value and blessing of wisdom using several different word pictures. The point that Solomon is making in our verse today, is that wisdom is rare, and precious to the hearer. I'm not sure exactly what type of ornament or center piece Solomon had in mind, but I do know that it was made of rare, precious metals. The fact that the metals are rare, adds to what makes them so precious. It is the same with wisdom. Wisdom is precious in and of itself, but the fact that it is so rare, adds to its value and blessing. Do you view God's wisdom this way? May we esteem and value wisdom by seeking it and speaking it, in our everyday lives.
