The days of the kings were interesting times. Whoever sat on the throne had great power. Many desired to sit on the throne. They would go to great lengths to acquire the throne. As David grew older, he began to prepare for his successor. David explained to the people that Soloman would succeed him. David informed them Soloman would build the Temple.
1Ch 29:1 Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.
Notice, "whom God alone hath chosen." David told them people Soloman was ordained of God to sit on the throne when David dies. However, we see Adonijah attempt to take the throne.1Ki 1:5 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king:
Not only did Adonijah lay claim to the throne, but others attempted to help him; Joab and Abiathar among them.
They devised a plan. Adonijah claimed he was king. Word was given to David. David in wisdom anionted Soloman king.
The plan of God was clearly given by David. He told who was to be his successor. Yet, some tried to override the plan of God.
Remember today, it is always foolish to walk contrary to the plain revealed will of God. If God has revealed something clearly, follow it. The plan of God can not be usurped or changed. Also remember, the hearts of the kings are in His hand. God controls the powers which be upon this earth. He is Sovereign over all. Follow Him. Trust Him. Things are never out of His control.
