David numbered the people. David transgressed the commandment of God. Because of David's sin, God sent a plague among the people. David makes a sacrifice to God. He desires the threshingfloor of Ornan.
I have heard many messages talking about David buying the threshing floor of Ornan. David said, 1st Chronicles 21:24, "No, but I will surely buy it for the full price, for I will not take what is your for the Lord, nor offer burnt offerings of that which costs me nothing."
These messages always focus on David. They focus on his desire to pay for that with which he will make sacrifice. However, let's stop and look at the willingness of Ornan to surrender all to David. David asked Ornan, "Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar on it to the Lord." 2nd Samuel gives the man to whom David came the name of Araunah. Listen to his words as David desired the threshingfloor.
2Sa 24:22 And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood. 2Sa 24:23 All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king.
The point I want to establish is that Araunah offered all to the king. He was willing to surrender his all to David. Are we that willing? How much would we be willling to surrender for our Lord?
