Reflections While Reading

David trusted the Lord. David prayed unto the Lord. He prayed, not because he felt like that is what He was supposed to do. David truly trusted the Lord. The Psalms he wrote were an expression of that trust. We are able to see David's reliance upon God when He makes statements like the following:

Psa 18:31 For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God?
Psa 18:32 It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.
Psa 18:33 He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places.

David believed his strength came from the Lord. David believed it was God which caused him to prosper, who subdued his enemies before him. David believed God set him up on the high places.

I think at times I pray, but do not expect God to make my way perfect. I do not expect God to subdue the events of life. I pray knowing God can do exceedingly abundantly more than I can ask or think. However, I do not know how often I expect Him to do great things for me.

David was a man after God's own heart because he trusted the Lord. It seems he wholly relied upon God. It seems David expected God to deliver him. Then, when God did deliver him, he was not afraid to give God the praise. Today, we should consider if we are depending on God with a spirit of expectation.

Psa 18:46 The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.
Psa 18:47 It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me.
Psa 18:48 He delivereth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.
Psa 18:49 Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.
Psa 18:50 Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.

The Lord liveth and blessed be the Rock. THEREFORE WILL I GIVE THANKS UNTO THEE, O LORD, AMONG THE HEATHEN!
