"Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate." Proverbs 24:7
A fool is out of place when surrounded by wisdom. The gate is the place that judicial courts and wise men gathered. This was a place where serious decisions were discussed and decided upon. A man at the gate was a man of influence. The principle of this passage is that fools are not fit for an influential position. We could think of many individuals in positions of authority and influence that would fit the category of a fool couldn’t we? In the climate of complaints and criticism aimed at political powers, this passage pretty much applies itself. While I do not endorse constant criticism toward political leaders, a fool will always receive criticism when put in a position of influence. With that being said, how diligently are you pursuing wisdom? The truth is, many times the loudest opposition to foolish people in influential positions, is just as foolish as the person being criticized. Do you want to be a positive influence in the kingdom of God? You will not be fit if you lack wisdom. May we pursue wisdom, that the kingdom of Christ might be honored and the influence of Christ might be established among our boarders.
