God gave the children of Israel 2 tables of stone. On these stones were His Words. His commandments if you will. Think of the treasured place these tables must have had among the people. No doubt they were honored and reverenced because they were the words given by God. They were kept in an honored place which was made specifically for them.
Do we hold the Word of God in such high esteem today? No, I do not think we do. The old saying, "familiarity breeds contempt," probably applies in this case. We are so acccustomed to the presence of the Word of God in our lives that we do not esteem it as highly as we should.
Think of what the Lord requires of Israel.
Deu 10:12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, Deu 10:13 To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?
Fear Him, Love Him, walk with Him, serve Him, be faithful to His Word--this doesn't seem like too great a task. We should be able to do this. Look at the promise, it will be for our good. Can we focus on this today?
