For the Local Area Lewisham is the church on our Prayer Diary for the coming week. The church correspondent writes: βDuring August we completed our first ever 'Holiday at Home' week. We praise God for the good number attending and the new contacts made. The twice-weekly evangelistic literature outreach from the chapel car park has been maintained with some profitable conversations. We have a brother being baptised 13/08/06.β
For the Wider Area News from Brian and Necy Ellis - Cubao - Philippines
This month 40 years ago Brian first arrived in the Philippines to begin missionary work. Brian and Necy had met in Singapore in April of 1966 when Necy had become his language teacher.
CUBAO REFORMED BAPTIST CHURCH We gave thanks to the Lord, the first Saturday of the month, for the 27 years existence of the church and the Lord's great faithfulness to us in spite of our sins and many failings. Please continue to pray for the many opportunities which we constantly have to proclaim the gospel of our Lord. We have so many opportunities yet we seem to see so little fruit. A new Bible Study opened recently conducted by one of our young men, Joel Pascual, with the Mateo Family. The situation on the property is still on hold due to a problem concerning the court-appointed administrator and his responsibilities in regard to some other properties which were involved in the dispute. Please continue to pray that it may soon become available as we need to make use of some of the old apartments. However we also need to continue to seek to raise the large sum that will be required.
NEWS FROM OTHER CHURCHES We are in the middle of the monsoon season and although the centre of the various typhoons that have come have not usually hit the Philippines they have brought vast amounts of rain which have caused flooding and landslides. The Valenzuela Reformed Baptist Church which is situated in very low lying area has particularly been hit. Please pray for Pastor Aries Liboro and the church. They would like to relocate the church but to find a suitable place and the finances to do so make it extremely unlikely that they will be able to relocate to higher ground.
Fegans Our Work The work of Fegans has been focused on the child from the start. Although we no longer run children's homes, our priority remains the wellbeing of the child. Much of our work is directly with children, through the groups we run at our Centres and in schools, as well as one to one work. Today we offer no residential provision. Instead we work in the community. We undertake services such as counselling, child and family support, pre-school facilities, schools work and training. As a Christian organisation, Fegans underlines the value of the family. In order to help children, it means that issues in the family home often have to be addressed. Therefore, we work with parents, or those with parental responsibility, especially in times of crisis.
