Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: to the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. 2 Cor. 2:14-17
After the morning service we plan to observe the Lord’s Table followed by lunch downstairs in our fellowship hall.
Man, in his natural state has no desire for the things of God, no interest in the Gospel or saving grace; and when circumstances of sickness, sorrow, or fear generate some interest, it is usually not sincere or lasting! But, when God is pleased to cross a person’s path, awaken His sleeping soul, and create an interest in spiritual matters, that interest is not only sincere and genuine, but will certainly result in salvation and eternal glory. Christ said, “Every man that hath heard and learned of the Father, COMETH UNTO ME!”

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, this is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matthew 3:17 The message of God’s glorious Gospel is found in these amazing words that God spoke one day from His heavenly throne. “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” God is well pleased with His beloved Son! This is the sinner’s only hope of redemption.
God is angry with the wicked every day! (Psalm 7:11) Yet the Holy Father is not only pleased, but He is WELL PLEASED with His beloved Son. There has never been a time that God was not well pleased with the Lord Jesus Christ. Before the beginning of time, He has always been by Him, brought up with Him and was daily His delight. (Prov. 8:30)
This is the message from God that gives hope and life to the helpless and lost. God is well pleased with His precious Son. God can never be pleased with sinful men and women in their works of self-righteousness. But God is well pleased with Christ. This is why I must have Him! This is why I must be found in Him. In Him we find the only place where God can be well pleased with us.
God the Son voluntarily was MADE in the likeness of men, MAKING Himself of no reputation and TAKING on the form of a servant, yet having no sin Himself. (Phil. 2:7) “God hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Cor. 5:21). And when the wrath, judgment, and justice of God was exhausted on Christ at Calvary as the one sacrifice for His people’s sin forever, God said, “I am well pleased.” With Him as my Substitute, I am, in Him, perfectly holy and righteous. Not holy and righteous as men describe it, but holy and righteous as God Himself. My union with Him is such, that if God is well pleased with His beloved Son, then He is also now well pleased with me.
So let me ask you dear sinner, are you well pleased with the Lord Jesus Christ? If God gives you eyes to see that in Him is the ONLY place where God can be well pleased with you, you too will be well pleased with Him. Pastor David Eddmenson
"BEHOLD, I AM VILE" Job 40:4 This was Job's reply after listening to Almighty God describe the majesty of His glorious character. This is good ground to be placed upon. Because it is only when we hear God speak as God and reveal Himself to us as God that we know something of our own sinful character (Isa. 6:1-5). However, according to the statement of scripture in Job 1:1 God said, "that Job was perfect and upright, and one that feared God and hated evil." How can Job be prefect and vile at the same time? Job was a believer like Abraham, David and all other believers who are made righteous and considered perfect only by receiving a justifying righteousness through the merits of the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 1:30).
There is in every believer two natures. That spiritual nature when we are made new creatures in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17; 2 Peter 1:4) and the old, ruined, and vile nature we received by natural birth in Adam (Rom. 5:12). The spiritual nature can't sin (1 Jn. 3:9) and the old nature cannot produce anything but sin (Rom. 3:9-12). The believer is painfully aware of his sinful and corrupt nature and grieves over his sin. However, he never makes the corruption of his heart an excuse for the corruption of his life. We should never use our fallen nature for a reason to sin (Gal. 5:13-17). Because of our indwelling sin it is a daily miracle that we continue and persevere in faith (1 Peter 1:3-5). The enemy would be much easier to fight off if he didn't have an ally on the inside. One of the worst fears the believer has is the deceitfulness of his own heart (Jer. 17:9; Mark 7:21). We carry within us an infamous traitor to our own soul! Beware, when he speaks to you of trusting others, rather than the Lord Jesus Christ alone; and heed the warning of scripture (1 Cor. 16:22). Beware, when he says to you that sin can be put away and we can be justified apart from the substitionary sacrifice and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ; and heed the warning of scripture (1 John 1:7). Beware, when the old nature raises his ugly head and says that the gospel of grace is only for the theologian and the intellect; and heed the warning of scripture (Gal. 1:7-9). Beware, when the old nature says that those sitting, partaking and believing a false gospel are saved; and heed the warning of scripture (1 Jn. 5:11-12). Beware, when the old nature says to you that it doesn't matter how I live, how I act and what I say; and heed the warning of scripture (Eph. 4:17-24).
Beloved friend, the old nature doesn't grow weaker as the new man grows in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. The old nature remains a powerful enemy to our soul and an ally to the devil. Beware!
