"A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished." Proverbs 22:3

We live in a time where cultural influences are constantly bombarding us with the message that everything is ok. You do not have to listen to a crowd of young people very long to discover that whatever the topic of discussion is, it’s awesome! Slowly but surely, the world, the flesh, and the devil, are convincing us that the simpleton, who has never learned discernment, is enlightened and wise. The world uses the word “tolerant”, but has changed the meaning of the word to picture the same thing as “simple”, found in the book of Proverbs. You see, it is now becoming a virtue to be that which God calls foolish. The word tolerant or tolerate originally meant to put up with something that you didn’t necessarily agree with, or to endure. The idea was to peacefully disagree, but ultimately live and let live. This is not what is meant by tolerant today. Tolerant has become synonymous with words such as accept, embrace, and approve. With all of this being said, we must listen with sobriety as James tells us that friendship with the world is an expression of opposition and hatred toward God1. As a whole, Christians have greatly lost their ability to foresee evil, and this in large part, is due to the fact that Christians have decided that friendship with the world isn’t so bad after all. The truth of the matter is, it is impossible to be wise, if we are not walking in fellowship with God. Where are you today?
