The wisdom that is to be gained from this verse is, despite what we may have or lack materially, we are all equally created by God. This means that there is a commonality we share with humanity that is greater than what we have or don’t have; we all come from the hand of the same creator. Think of the amazement behind the basic concept that God is the maker of us all. Every individual you see today has been hand crafted by God. Their physical features (as well as yours) are the result of God’s doing, God’s fashioning, God’s pleasure. In many ways, their personalities have been designed and crafted by God. When I say personality, I am not referring to habitual sinful responses to life and pressures, but rather to an individual’s basic disposition. The talents and abilities that you will encounter today have been given from the wise hand of God. If it is true that outside of our creator we have and are nothing, this should lead us to a few practical conclusions. 1. There is never a reason to be arrogant or full of pride. It is so easy to look down on others and try to elevate our perceived strengths about their weaknesses isn’t it? The truth is, there is no basis for that kind of thinking. Anything we have, has been given to us from God; on what basis can we boast? 2. If God is the maker of us all, there is something we can appreciate about every individual. It’s so easy to zero-in on other people’s flaws and be cynical isn’t it? May we look for the imprint of God, in all those He places in our lives.
