"By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life." Proverbs 22:4

I don’t think it would be an overstatement to say that as fallen human beings, we are prone to being confused and perpetuating confusion about basic areas of life. Part of the reason for this is the fact that we may not fully understand what we are trying to grasp. Even when we do seem to understand something, many times communicating it in an understandable way can be a challenge. Have you ever had the experience of trying to communicate something that you thought you understood, only to find that you had confused yourself by the end of your explanation? The good news about today’s text is that God is not confused about the issues of life, and He has the ability to communicate His thoughts clearly. Do you want to know how to have a life that is worth living? It is through humility and the fear of the Lord. While it is not a simple task to put these two things into practice, it is simple to understand what God is communicating. Humility comes as we lay our dreams and desires at the feet of Christ in exchange for His will for our lives. This is a life of self-denial and sacrifice. The fear of the Lord is simply taking God seriously; living as if He is real. This includes prayer and time in the Word, as well as time considering how we might live our day to day lives under the influence of the Holy Spirit. May we pray for the humility, to take God at His Word.
