Miss Hattie's testimony is truly one of the greatest blessings of my life. I met Miss Hattie in 2011 when she was 86 yrs. old,when myself and another brother were delivering food for people in need. It was Saturday, one week before Easter and we were delivering food from a Christian organization named "Cityteam Ministries". We came to Miss Hattie's door and she invited us in and asked us to sit down as her and her son were just having a conversation and they had some questions about their discussion. It seemed to me at that point that they were religious but unconverted so we proceeded to share the gospel. I don' t remember her response that day other than she invited us to come back the next week for a Bible study and she asked if I would teach it. The next week came and I wasn't sure if she was even going to be there, but she was and we had the study and I quickly found out that she was trusting in her works and that she had been a seventh day Adventist most of her life. So the Bible study continued on week after week and some other ladies from the neighborhood started to attend. However it became more evident as we taught through the scripture that Miss Hattie was clearly trusting in her works, but the good thing was was that she started to sense that her works were not enough so she started to try to do more and to come up with more ways to prove that her life really wasn't that bad. But as she did we were able to see that she was coming under conviction and feeling her lost condition and the more she pronounced her own works the more she felt the guilt of her sin. Then after about one and a half years of teaching her every Saturday she came to life and her testimony became "Jesus Christ is my righteousness" and she told me about 3 months before she went to glory that she used to trust in her works and had no assurance of heaven but now she sees that salvation, forgiveness and righteousness is found in Christ alone and that she now has great confidence of heaven. What a great blessing to see someone in their late 80s come to Christ and to see the mercy of God to cause her to see the light after all those many years of deception. Then she wanted me to preach at her funeral and I had the great privilege to officiate and preach the funeral and I was able to preach the gospel to about 50 or 60 family members and friends. I am broken as I write this to think of this great honor that God would bestow on us to preach the gospel. May the name of theLord Jesus Christ be glorified as we see His grace in saving sinners.
