Please plan to stay for lunch after the service next Sunday when we will celebrate Frank Tate’s 50th birthday. We welcome Brother Bob Coffey to the pulpit this morning. Bob is a dear friend of this congregation. He will be bringing both messages today. Eric Floyd will be preaching the gospel here on Wednesday night. The Lord willing, we will return from Mexico on Thursday.
In these hard economic times, we often hear the phrase, “I can’t afford….” followed generally by some material desire of sought after pleasure. The truth is if I can’t afford it I most likely don’t need it! Two vital things the believer actually can’t afford are: I can’t afford to neglect the worship of our Lord Jesus Christ; and I can’t afford to neglect my brothers and sisters in Christ. May the Lord enable us to be given over to those desires and pleasures. “Having food and raiment let us therewith be content.”

HE HAS PROVIDED ALL THAT I NEED
“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” (I Cor. 1:30-31).
Seeing that Jesus Christ is made these things to all whom God saves, then it is evident that they have none of these in themselves by nature. Everything that a sinner needs to stand accepted in God’s holy presence, God has provided in His Son. Therefore, come and let us glory in the Lord. “Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.” (I Chronicles 16:29) - Copied
ASKING FOR MERCY
I have a piece of folded up paper that I use as a bookmark in one of my commentaries. I have used it for so long that I had forgotten what was on the inside of the paper. The other day I unfolded it and found the handwriting of one of my daughters when she was a little girl. She had written down this outline. I don’t know who she heard give this outline but it is a very good outline for a sinner who is seeking mercy. The title is Asking For Mercy.
- Ask humbly.
- Sinners ask for mercy.
- Ask continually.
- Ask faithfully.
MADE RICH THROUGH HIS POVERTY
“For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.” (II Cor. 8:9)
What depths of poverty our Savior sunk to in order to save His people! Almighty God became a man in the poverty of human flesh. The One who made woman was made of a woman. God whom the heavens cannot contain became a homeless man. God who owns everything got money to pay taxes from the mouth of a fish. The self existent One felt tired, hungry, and thirsty. The Holy One of Israel was made sin for His people. Life Himself died under the wrath of God as a substitute for sinners. How I long to give up the poverty of this flesh for the riches of Christ my Savior!
