Our sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Deane Bartram upon the recent death of her sister, Lorene Virgin. People who believe universal atonement (Christ died for everyone) all have this problem in common: their opinion of God is based on what they think and not on how God describes Himself in His Word. They think God is like them, but God’s Word says that is not so. “God is not a man, that He should lie” (Num 23:19). Job said of God “He is not a man, as I am” (Job 9:32). They think God makes decisions like men do, but God’s Word says that is not so. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my was, saith the Lord.” (Isaiah 55:8). Universal atonement is not found anywhere in God’s Word. The only reason anyone would believe something contrary to God’s Word is they do not know God. “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” (Isaiah 8:20).
If any man ascribes anything of salvation, even the very least thing, to the free will of man, he knows nothing of grace, and he has not learned Jesus Christ rightly.
Martin Luther
Salvation is entirely by grace. From start to finish and every step in between, salvation is by grace. God saves His elect by grace and then God’s children walk in His grace. God does not save a sinner and then put them under the rule of the law. God does not extort obedience from His children with promises of rewards or threats of punishment. The children of God walk in obedience out of a loving, heart that is thankful for God’s grace to them. (Gal 5:25, Eph 5:1-2)
“These things I command you, that ye love one another” John 15:17
There is so much sin still in all God’s children that they have to be commanded to love one another, even as we have to be told, “This do in remembrance of me.” However, there is a day coming when we will love one another perfectly and never forget Him who loved us and gave Himself for us. Come quickly Lord Jesus.
John Chapman
“It is impossible to preach (1) that a man is both totally and partially depraved, (2) that election is both conditional and unconditional, (3) that regenerating grace is both irresistible and resistible, (4) that redemption is both limited and unlimited, (5) that perseverance is both certain and uncertain. Nor can there be a modification of one by the other; it is impossible to blend the two. History records such efforts in the past; but despite the efforts, sovereign grace and free-willism will not mix, nor can they walk together in peace, nor can those holding either system force the other to their view (Rom 11:6; “And if by grace, then it is no more of works; otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it is of works, then it is no more grace; otherwise work is no more work”).

Of this I am sure. If salvation is not all of grace, I will not be saved. If any aspect of salvation is dependent upon me doing or not doing something, I will not be in heaven. If what Christ did alone is not enough to make me just before God, I will be in hell. If I am not preserved by irresistible and invincible grace, I will fall away. If God does not look to Christ for everything He requires of me, then I have no hope. But thank God, salvation really is all of grace. Salvation is not dependent upon my doing or not doing something. What Christ did alone makes me just before God. I am preserved by irresistible grace. Everything God requires of me He looks to
His Son for. Therefore…saved I must be!
