A Thought From the Word

And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?” Joshua 18:3

God had mightily driven out the enemy nations from Canaan in order to give this rich treasure to His people Israel. Each tribe would have certain portions of land assigned them. But they were slow and idle take their possession.

It is easy to criticize them from a distance and they deserve it. But then the mirror often shows us in the same condition. God has given to you, child of God, a rich possession. Don't be slack to take it! There is more fellowship with God to be had. There is a deeper walk with Christ to experience. There is more truth to teach and pattern to your children and grandchildren. There is more victory over sin to be enjoyed as we use God's word in our lives. There is more kingdom work to be done, more efforts to reach out and minister to others in Jesus' name.

This is not a fluffy “feel-good” unrealistic message. Victory takes hard work as we depend on God heavily for grace. It is a life-long, yet daily pursuit. Are you willing to give all diligence by grace to possess more of your possessions?

The word 'slack' could mean idle, lazy, relaxed or quitting. That is one category to avoid. But it could also mean disheartened, despondent, discouraged. Don't allow your present weaknesses and past mistakes prevent you from, by faith in God, taking more of the rich possessions God has provided!
