James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. Solomon speaks of the years of our vanity (Ecclesiastes 7:15, 9:9, 11:8; Psalm 39:5, 144:4), and indeed it is in consideration of fewness of days and fulness of troubles (Job 14:1). Of course, Solomon was speaking in regards to life from an earthly perspective as he reflected by God's inspiration upon his backslidden days. Truly all is vanity and vexation of spirit (Ecclesiastes 1:14; 2:11, 17, 26; 4:4, 16; 6:9) from a mere naturalistic point of view.
The Lord gave spiritual refreshment to His beloved Solomon as especially seen in the end of the book in Ecclesiastes 12:10-14 The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth. 11 The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd. 12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. 13 ¶ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
From the vantage point of a child of God, there fulness of purpose, to glorify God, advance His Kingdom, be a blessing to others, and look forward to a glorious eternity with our Creator, Saviour, and our God. To live, die, and go to hell without Christ is vanity of vanities and vexation of spirit for eternity.
May the truth of God endear each heart that you may know the blessedness of the truth shall make you free--John 8:32, the joy unspeakable and full of glory--I Peter 1:8, the peace that passeth all understanding--Philippians 4:7,and Ephesians 3:19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
When our Blessed Hope returns to establish His everlasting Kingdom, it will not be vanity, but, rather, eternal life in a perfect Paradise forevermore. May God give strength, grace, and comfort to not be weary in well doing but be busy about our Father's business till our work on earth as we know it is done.
