The Sovereignty of God
Daniel 4:34-35 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation: 35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
How often that so many of us miss out on the full blessings of this God-glorifying doctrine! The God of the Holy Scriptures Who spoke this universe into existence is absolutely sovereign over all things. This is a terror to the wicked, but a comfort to the saints.
The ignorance of this truth is one way which we miss out on the full blessings of this biblical teaching. It could be a denial of it altogether or in part. It could be that because of our own forgetfulness and sinfulness we miss out on the full blessings of this doctrine. However, it is not just about obtaining blessings, but giving glory to God.
Embracing the doctrine of the Sovereignty of God gives the believer a calm demeanor and inner peace, in the most difficult of circumstances, and points to the God in control of all things. The Lord God is in control of who is saved, who is not saved, who will be ruler and who will be servant, what the economy will do or won't do, what the weather will be or won't be, every minute detail is in the absolute sovereign control of our Almighty and loving God. Were it not so, He could very well lose control in some other area of life to Satan or the world.
This is the firm foundation upon which we enjoy promises such as Romans 8:28-30 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 ¶ For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
God grant us the grace to rest in the loving, sovereign care of our great God and Saviour Who soon shall return to rule in a public and eternal fashion to set up His everlasting Kingdom. If you don't know the God of Sovereign Power and Glory may He be pleased to reveal Himself as your Saviour and Lord before time shall be no more.
