This same principle is repeated several times throughout the book of Proverbs and the Old Testament (Pr 16:1; 19:21; 20:24; 21:30; Ps 37:23; Isa 46:10; Jer 10:23). The principle here is that God’s sovereignty will ultimately prevail over the plans and purposes of men. The reason we have a difficult time seeing this at times, is because our focus is too small. Many times we get so drawn in to the details of life that we can’t see the overall picture of what is being orchestrated. This happens for a couple of reasons. For one, God’s sovereign plan spans eternity, and the entirety of our lives will consume a tiny fraction of a fraction of that time. With this being said, if we only use what we can see to interpret what we experience, we are trying to make our conclusion based on insufficient evidence. We must interpret our personal experiences through the truths of Scripture. This must be an intentional exercise, as we are all prone to try and interpret the Bible through our personal experiences. God is bringing the world to a place where every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Master). This will occur willingly to those who have been transformed through Grace. This will happen by force to those who hate God and are hardened to His reign. For those who have been made to love God, this passage is the best news you could ever receive. Despite your blunders and foolishness, God is overruling your purposes and directing your steps. He will not leave you to yourself, but will continue to bring you to the point to where you willingly lay your entire life at His feet.
