Everyday Wisdom | Proverbs 16:8

“Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.” Proverbs 16:8

Today, we learn an important truth that Solomon must have both observed and experienced. What you are will dictate how you view and use what you have. An individual who has very little materially, yet pursues righteousness through daily submission to God, will be a wise steward and will be thankful for what God has graciously provided. However, one who is building wealth and yet has no regard for God and His Word, will ultimately make a god of their stuff, and continually be driven by an unsatisfied lust for more. If we look close enough, we will find that this passage confronts us in the area of our priorities. If you were to visually draw out a priority scale, where would you find the pursuit of righteousness in relation to the pursuit of stuff? We can get a pretty accurate measure on this by comparing how much time we spend pursuing each of these. Just so we are clear here; you can pursue righteousness and money at the same time, because it is necessary that we have money to provide for our families. As we continue to move toward clarity, I also want to say that you cannot be obsessed with both at the same time. You cannot serve God and mammon; you will love the one and hate the other. So, I would ask you this morning, where are your priorities? If you do not like the answer that you find, repent and turn to God for wisdom.
