There is a contrast here between purity and impurity. Solomon states that the thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord. We receive a very important insight here; even an idle sinner is offensive to God. The sinner does not have to act upon his sinfulness in order to offend a holy God; all he has to do is think. The contrast between thoughts and words is an interesting comparison. The fact is, our words are the expression of our thoughts. Those who are trying to discipline themselves to set their mind on things above are probably speaking pleasant words. What does God think about your thought life?
