Everyday Wisdom | Proverbs 15:25

"The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.” Proverbs 15:25

Isn’t it sobering to think that the man, who penned these words, raised the boys who would one day split the Kingdom? Is it not even more sobering to consider the fact that Solomon’s sons didn’t need to look any further than their father to learn prideful arrogance in the face of God? While we could say a lot about what it means to be proud, and how pride might manifest itself in our lives, pride is simply saying NO to God. Pride is not mere ignorance, but educated rebellion. The proud do not take God seriously. The proud think that there are no consequences for their actions. Destruction is the harvest that you will reap if you sow the seed of pride in our life.

In contrast to this, he says that God will establish the border of the widow. The widow is used to picture one who is helpless, needy, and humble. One who knows that outside of the provision of God’s wisdom and grace, they do not have what it takes to live life. The helpless and needy are those who say YES to God, in obedience to his instruction and guidance. The humble make God’s agenda their highest priority in everyday life. The promise is that God will bless this individual’s life.

As you look at your everyday moments in life, what are you saying to God?
