Our passage today speaks of the focus of an individual’s life. It says that to the wise individual, his focus is on heavenly things. Doesn’t this remind you of Paul’s command to the Colossians in the third chapter of the book? “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.” Paul challenges and encourages the Colossian’s to live a life that is consistent with who they are in Christ. If we have been made a new creature in Christ, and we are no longer enslaved to destructive, sinful desires, then Paul says, feed your soul with things above. Jesus says, in Matthew 6:33, that we should be placing the kingdom of God as the highest priority in our lives. If we are placing God’s agenda above our own agenda, we are departing from destruction. What will your focus be today? May we strive, in the little everyday moments of life, to seek those things which are above.
