"A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!" Proverbs 15:23
This text speaks of the value and benefit of pursuing wisdom. Let’s begin with the last half of the text: an appropriate word spoken at the appropriate time is very beneficial. Chances are, you will have many opportunities to give your opinion or some kind of guidance this week. What will you do when these opportunities come? Will you be prepared to do good to the questioner by offering wisdom from God’s Word, or will you rely on your own common sense? Will your answer be a clear and understandable, or will you give a wordy pontification that would be considered a riddle had it been spoken in another setting?
I want to challenge you today to consider the tough questions as well as the everyday challenges in life through the wisdom provided to us in God’s Word. I also want to challenge you to have something to say to those who would ask your advice. There is joy fond in dispensing wisdom. This joy can exist without pride. It is a joy to point someone to the wisdom of Jesus Christ. It is a joy to take an everyday moment and turn it into an opportunity to witness to someone. It is a joy to rest in the wisdom of the King of Kings.
