We are planning to have a New Years Eve service at 7:00 p.m. on December 31st. After the service we will have a time of fellowship and celebrate Sabrina Keesee’s 40th birthday. There will be no service the following night. Our sincere sympathy is extended to Carter Brown in the death of his sister, Joan Eskridge.
A Difference Made
Ex 11:7 But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.
God has truly made a difference in His people. The unregenerate religionist insists upon being saved by his own work, call it a decision, call it faith, call it whatever you want. It is a work performed by the sinner and he is insistent upon being saved on those terms. Once he is "saved" however, he is not interested in works any more. He is unfaithful and unwilling to serve God. He must be bribed with rewards or threatened with hell to get him to do anything, and constantly pumped up emotionally.
The true believer is just the opposite. He renounces himself and all ability on his part in the matter of salvation and is insistent that salvation is on the grounds of free grace in Christ alone, being jealous for God’s glory. Then, being saved by sovereign grace and having been given a genuine love for Christ, his constant prayer is, Lord, what would you have me do?
Pastor Chris Cunningham
You cannot be heard in penitent prayer, or receive pardon, or commence the life of faith, or be even a babe in grace unless you know the great truth of God, that the Lord “has made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.”
Charles Spurgeon
CHRIST DIED FOR SINNERS
I pray that we never become so gospel hardened, that our hearts do not leap for joy every time we hear this glorious truth, Christ died for sinners. Let’s consider each word of this blessed statement and rejoice.
CHRIST died for sinners. The Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is the promised Savior, the long awaited Messiah. And it is this One who gave Himself to die as a ransom for sin.
Christ DIED for sinners. It is a miracle that the Lord Jesus Christ, Life Himself, actually died, but an even greater miracle is why Christ died. He died because He agreed to be made sin for God’s elect. When the Father imputed the sin of His elect to Christ, the holy Son of God was made to be sin so He died under the justice of God’s holy law that demands death for sin (Ezekiel 18:4).
Christ died FOR sinners. Christ died as the sinner’s substitute. Christ suffered the penalty of sin that His people deserve. Christ died the death that His people deserve so that His people would have eternal life. What mercy, love and grace that Christ would die in the place of sinners! (Romans 5:8)
Christ died for SINNERS. The Lord Jesus Christ did not die for good people, for righteous people, or for people who needed a little bit of help in order to be saved. Christ died for real sinners, sinners who were dead in trespasses and sins and unable to do anything for themselves. Christ died to pay the entire sin debt of His elect. Jesus paid it ALL, all the debt I owe.
How thankful sinners are that Christ died for sinners!
Any preaching that does not drive sinners to Christ is not true preaching at all, no matter how educational, inspirational, or doctrinally sound it may be.
